Profile
**Steve Baker** is a film director, music director, and musician.
Born Stephen John Baker, he adopted the stage name Steve Sma5h on March 28, 1968.
Steve began his journey in the creative industry as a musician and producer before transitioning into film. His musical career started in the early 2000s when he worked with artist Robert Miles, known for his No. 1 hit "Children," at S:alt Records. During this period, he produced a single for a band called Urban Zen Corporation, which led to various musical projects in London. This included collaboration with the band Meta Tekki, which released the album *Before Our Time* in a limited CD run in 2001, later re-released in 2021 on Core Jam Records. The band then changed its name to Sma5h TV, inspired by the stage name Steve Sma5h suggested by K Tron. They released the album *The Electric Truth* in 2002, followed by a re-release in 2011 on Electro Blip Records. Their second album, *Is This The Future*, was released in 2004, and it too was re-released in 2021 on Core Jam Records. The song "Disko Damage" was featured in the film and on the soundtrack of *Dressed As A Girl* in 2016 through Blue Oyster Pictures Ltd. The band's final gig was at Glastonbury in 2005. Other notable musical works include: - **2005:** Co-writing and producing the album *Heaven Sin* for the band Neon Zoo, released on Forked Tongue Records. - **2005:** Forming the band Mea Culpa, releasing the album *Cadence* in the same year, followed by the album *Ancora Qui* in 2022 on Core Jam Records. - **2008:** Forming the band Gestalt, releasing the album *Forge A New Noise* on Eskimo Indigo Records, along with the single "Death Threats" on Electro Blip Records. He later signed with At Jazz Records to release a single titled "Brighter Co," produced with Richard Frost from A New Funky Generation. The album *Children Of A Greater Love* by Mellow Baku & The Friday People was released in 2014 on Sleek City. In the same year, he began collaborating with Marika Ling, who featured on "The Messenger" by A New Funky Generation in 1997 (Sleek City Records). They worked on her solo album, *Marika Ling*, released in 2016 on Core Jam Records. Steve also briefly worked with WeAllFallSilent, recording two singles, "All Hell Broke Loose" (2017) and "Sometimes" (2018), both released on Core Jam Records. In 2018, he joined Mystery Action, continuing to use the name Steve Sma5h. He has since recorded two albums, *Tales From The Dark Side* in 2019 and *It Came From Frog Island* in 2024, both on Cadiz Music, along with a handful of EPs and singles on Core Jam Records.
